Heading back to school in 2020 looks nothing like it has in years past. And yet, the collegiate fashion trends that coincide with the arrival of the new school year appear to be holding steady. Pleated mini skirts are (yet again) experiencing an uptick in popularity, cardigans are thriving on TikTok, and sheer knee socks à la Cher Horowitz (but perfected by Miuccia Prada) are making their descent on our hosiery drawers. Like the sound of the, well, morning bell, back-to-school fashion is making a comeback — and its most iconic footwear style, the Mary-Jane, is once again at the helm. Mary-Janes appear to be making an even greater than usual return in the fashion world, with Riccardo Tisci’s T-bar style for Burberry looking to once again dominate the fall footwear scene and Cecilie Bahnsen’s quilted pair (designed in collaboration with Charles & Keith as part of a collection aptly titled Back To School) being spotted all over Instagram. Also in the mix are Prada’s iteration, which appears to be a hybrid between a Mary-Jane and an espadrille; Nodaleto’s early aughts-era chunky-heeled platforms, and Proenza Schouler’s platform take. Carel, the French footwear brand that The Politician star Lucy Boynton (who plays fashion icon Astrid Sloan on the Netflix series) favors both on and off the silver screen, is also a recent favorite on Instagram. (Whether or not that’s a product of the show’s second season being a quarantine must-watch is a question for another day.) And, of course, you can’t talk Mary-Janes without mentioning Dr. Marten’s Polleys, which, like cardigans, are a smash hit among Gen-Zers on TikTok. Whether you yourself are heading back to school or are a long-ago graduate opting to stay at home this fall, check out the season’s biggest shoe trend with our picks ahead. Adidas’s New Vegan Superstar Sneakers Are Covered With Flowers Made Out of Colorful Threads
The Kicks: Adidas Originals x Sean Wotherspoon Superearth Superstar
The Price: $110
Why We Love Them: Adidas has teamed up with Sean Wotherspoon for its Superearth initiative, and together they have reimagined a rad new version of the iconic Superstar sneaker that has flowers embroidered on it. You probably remember Sean from his collaboration with Nike for his creation of rainbow Air Max 97s that went viral a few years back. For his collab with Adidas, Sean made sure the sneakers are free from animal ingredients, making this one of a handful of vegan sneakers by the brand.
“People know that I’m vegan, and it’s a foundation of who I am. It’s a cornerstone of all my projects, and part of sustainable living. Adidas loved it and we started to look at all the ways we can bring vegan materials to the Superstar,” he said in a press release. The sneakers feature floral drawings sketched by Wotherspoon, with embroidered threads emerging from the upper.
Through the Superearth initiative, the sneakers were created in mind to reduce material waste during the footwear manufacturing process, as well as the use of products like recycled rubber. Keep reading to see all angles of the seriously unique floral sneakers that are set to drop Aug. 29 on Superearth initiative.Related:

Birkenstock’s New Corduroy Slides Could Totally Double as Slippers – They’re That Cozy
Birkenstock and Stüssy have announced a unisex collaboration that features the classic Boston Clog. The duo has come together to merge its “brand codes into a new classic.” Birkenstock is known for its laidback footwear, while Stüssy has a cult following in the streetwear game. The collab gives a modern refresh to Birkenstock’s classic design of the original Boston Clog, and it’s a minimalist’s dream.
Instead of leather, the shoe’s upper comes in corduroy and is complemented by the classic adjustable strap with buckle. As a suble touch, the Stüssy logo is debossed on the outside upper. The sandal is completed by Birkenstock’s signature anatomically designed cork footbed to provide comfort. The sandals also come with an integrated latex foam cushion and suede lining paired with an EVA outsole, which is plastic sole is lighter and more flexible than rubber. (That means you don’t have to worry about your feet hurting and you can rock ’em for hours on end!)
The corduroy clogs will be available in two sleek and simple colors, Anthracite and Bone. The collab will be available at select stores worldwide, on stussy.com, and on 1774.com on August 21st.Related:

10 Fresh Ways to Style Your Sneakers For Fall
Not-so-groundbreaking fall outfit idea: revolve your look around a pair of sneakers. Especially right now, I know that’s pretty much all you’re focused on doing. But my mission here is to reinvigorate your sneaker style with some interesting combinations you might never think of. That’s because some of the street style ahead – be it a moment in a colorful maxi dress or a pair of silk printed polka-dot pants – can also be completed with slippers or slides. Maybe you’d normally work these closet staples with fancier footwear, but I think you’ll appreciate the casual twist that comes when you switch it up. Not to mention the fact that choosing sneakers in the fall makes getting around easier and way more comfortable.
I’ve also suggested some of my favorite new-release sneakers that fit the bill when it comes to putting together these looks, some of which are ’70s-inspired and timeless, and others that incorporate new trends we’re seeing on Instagram, like the tennis skirt. Ahead, brush up on some of the latest sneaker styling I’ve been adding to my personal mood board, decide which ensemble is right for you, and do some shopping while you’re at it – because you can never have too many pairs of sneakers.Related:

Brother Vellies’ New Launch Is A Collaboration With When We All Vote & Keds
No matter how much love we have for our fancy shoes, given our new at-home lifestyles, opportunities for wearing them these days are few and far between. Instead, over the course of the last five months, it’s been our collection of logo-printed, polka-dotted, and color-blocked socks that have adorned our feet. And the cozier they are, the better. So when we caught wind that Aurora James’ Brother Vellies was designing a crew sock that’s just as luxe as the beloved (and often sold-out) Cloud Sock, our ears (and toes) immediately perked up. And that’s not even the best part.
On Wednesday, Brother Vellies launched a two-piece collection in partnership with sneaker brand Keds and When We All Vote, a nonprofit organization, launched by Michelle Obama, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monae, and more celebrities, that focuses on increasing participation and closing the race and age voting gap. The capsule includes a pair of crew socks with a logo design that reads “Vote” in red and gray lettering, and canvas slip-on sneakers with the words “When we all vote” written on the side in James’ handwriting. The sneakers’ laces are also printed with the organization’s name and include detachable silver “Vote” charms.
All proceeds from the sneakers, which are priced at $95, will go to When We All Vote, to help ensure that everyone who is willing and able to vote in the November presidential election can do so safely. For every pair of $35 crew socks sold, the brand will donate $5 to the same cause.
Both the outdoor and indoor footwear options courtesy of Brother Vellies, Keds, and When We All Vote will be available for purchase on Friday 8/14 at noon EST, but you can pre-order them today on BrotherVellies.com.
